Be late because I want to play marbles with my friends

Indeed it has been like years since I last updated this blog. I had a problem to login previously and I basically gave up trying after a few attempts to solve the problem. Nevertheless, just yesterday I managed to figure out the cause.

Well, here I am again and since this blog is specially about telling the stories of my grandchildren, I am going to write about their everyday activities.

My youngest grandson, Trevor reminded me to not fetch him from school early today because he wants to play marbles with his friends.

Hmm..now that reminded me that he has indeed grown up a "little" and already playing the outdoor game I played when I was about his age.

How time passed and I have much to catch up with!! Till next time, I must say Life is good and God is GREAT!

The Young Ones

Time passed and do not wait for us whenever we want ours to slow down. The Year 2013 is coming to an end and soon Year 2014 will be knocking at our door. The same goes to the growth of my grand children. It seems like yesterday that I heard little feet running around and hearing lots of crying and groaning. Well, I do not hear so much of that now. :)

I am just sheer proud to see my eldest grandson turning 10 years old in May, grand daughter turned 9 years old in August and the youngest turned 7 years old in December this year. My affection and endlessly doting on them is tremendous and at every single minute of the day, they are in my heart and soul. I can never stop bragging about them to any willing ears! Come this Jan 2014 its back to school again and Nigel will be in Primary 5, Nicole in Primary 4 and Trevor in Primary 2.

Year 2013 has been a wonderful and blessed year and I hope and pray for the new year to be blessed with God's blessings of good health, happiness and lots of love.

Merry Christmas 2012

Wishing you A Very Merry Christmas 2012

Christmas Creed

I believe in Jesus Christ and in the beauty of the gospel begun in Bethlehem.

I believe in the one whose spirit glorified a little town; and whose spirit still brings music to persons all over the world, in towns both large and small.

I believe in the one for whom the crowded inn could find no room, and I confess that my heart still sometimes wants to exclude Christ from my life today.

I believe in the one who the rulers of the earth ignored and the proud could never understand; whose life was among common people, whose welcome came from persons of hungry hearts.

I believe in the one who proclaimed the love of God to be invincible.

I believe in the one whose cradle was a mother’s arms, whose modest home in Nazareth had love for its only wealth, who looked at persons and made them see what God’s love saw in them, who by love brought sinners back to purity, and lifted human weakness up to meet the strength of God.

I confess my ever-lasting need of God: The need of forgiveness for our selfishness and greed, the need of new life for empty souls, the need of love for hearts grown cold.

I believe in God who gives us the best of himself. I believe in Jesus, the son of the living God, born in Bethlehem this night, for me and for the world.

Christmas Wishes 2011

Christmas, my child, is love in action......
When you love someone, you give to them, as God gives to us.
The greatest gift He ever gave was the person of His Son,
sent to us in human form. ~Dale Evans Rogers~

Our family wishes and hope this year is that all the children around the world find warmth, comfort, love, joy and peace in whatever seasons they may be in. May the grace of God's blessings be upon them all.

Watch What Jesus Does

When you pray for your child, watch what Jesus does. When you confess God’s Word into your situation, watch what Jesus does! Keep your eyes on Jesus, with whom nothing is impossible!

Let Your Heart Be Established By Grace

One of the many wonderful and blessed daily devotionals as shared by Pastor Joseph Prince. Please read on.

~ Quote
Hebrews 13:9
9… it is good that the heart be established by grace…

God does not want your heart full of worries and fears, tossed and turned by every challenge that comes your way. He wants your heart at rest and established by His grace toward you.

But when you think that the breakthroughs to your challenges depend on your ability to obey God, then your heart will not be at rest. It will be full of worries and anxieties. Why? Because you can never obey God perfectly.

But when you depend on God’s grace, that is, His undeserved, unmerited favor, the opposite happens — your heart becomes established. When you know that the only thing that qualifies you to receive God’s blessings is faith in the finished work of Christ, your heart becomes established. Then, you will walk without the fear of your troubles swallowing you up. You will walk with full assurance that His blessings will be manifested in your life.

My friend, God wants your heart established, knowing that His righteousness, healing, protection and prosperity are yours — all paid for by Jesus’ finished work at the cross. God’s blessings are sure in your life because they are not dependent on your ability to keep His laws, but Jesus’ perfect obedience.

You see, under the old covenant, you receive God’s blessings only if you keep all His laws. (Deuteronomy 28:1–2) If you sin and fail to keep even one law, you will be disqualified from receiving His blessings. But today, under the new covenant, your sins no longer disqualify you because God Himself has said, “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” (Hebrews 8:12)

So let your heart be established by God’s grace. Because of His grace, you have full access to His blessings. You no longer have to worry about whether you are good enough. You can stand firm on the promises made in His Word and enjoy His blessings today because Jesus has paid the price. Your part is only to believe and receive! ~Unquote
Alleluya! Amen! Thank you Pastor for your daily sharing. All of them bring happiness and joy to me and my family. God bless to you and yours.

Motivational Quote for the New Year

"Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that will never be again. And what do we teach our children? We teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are?

We should say to each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, and the way you move.

You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel?

You must work, we must all work, to make the world worthy of its children."

Nigel Is Now 6 Years Old!

Nigel turned 6 years old yesterday (20th May). The first thing I did after saying my morning prayer was kissed his forehead and whispered “Happy Birthday Little Turtle”. I gazed at him and his “baby-face” is still there though he has grown to be a young boy. Oh! How I wish I didn’t have to wake him up from his beautiful sleep, however it’s schooling day so I gently nudged him to wake up. When his lazy eyes opened, I loudly sang “Happy Birthday” and that helped him to sit up and crawled down from bed. My singing also woke up his sister, Nicole who blankly asked if it’s her birthday too. “Yours will be in August, Little Princess”, said I. She doesn’t look happy with the reply however she nodded showing that she agree, unwillingly! Kids will always be kids, if you know what I mean.

His mother called from Kota Kinabalu to also wished him the same. His father woke up early and gave him a HUGE hug and BIG kiss and wishing him well.
In the evening we went to “Marry Brown” Cafe at Parkson MegaMall and after dinner we shopped for gifts for each one of my grandchildren. Nigel’s birthday present is still kept a secret because his birthday celebration is planned for today with all my family members coming over to our house for dinner.
Even though this time yet again Nigel’s mother is not with us to celebrate his BIG DAY, there is his father to cheer him up. Thank God he doesn’t feel to lonesome without having his parent together. As a grandmother, I can only be thankful that I am still able and have the opportunity to raise him from an infant until now, know his characters quite well and understand how to handle his health problems better. I ask Our Sweet Lord to continue blessing him with good health and that his childhood years be an enjoyable and memorable one.

Happy Birthday once again Nigel My Little Turtle! Love and hugs from Nenek, Daddy, Sister Nicole, Auntie and Uncle Bills, cousin Trevor and all in the family!

~ Your goodness and unfailing kindness shall be with me all of my life, and afterwards I will live with you forever in your home. ~ Psalm 23:6

Meet My Grand Children

Today I am on leave from work. After sending my grandchildren to school, I spent the whole morning cleaning and tidying up the house. By late morning, I still got some time to watch a good movie "Apocalypto" a DVD I bought from our local store. As I as relaxing enjoying the movie, my mind wandered to my life and family. I've been a single mother for more than 20 years and I must say I'm feeling alone but not lonely. There are my grandchildren to enjoy and a couple of good friends around who are a joy in my relationship, creativity and peace of mind.
This year I'll turn 50 years old and how time passed. In me, I've always felt that it was only yesterday that I left school, fell in love and started a family. Now I am grandmother to three grandchildren and they are the treasure of my life. I will never trade them for anything else. Never ever! I don't feel old except until feeling of aches in my joints and back will I have to admit I am getting old! Ha..ha..ha..

Playing Together

"Sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what little girls are made of.
Snakes and snails and puppy dog tails, that's what little boys are made of."

My grand children enjoy playing outdoors. Every morning when they got up from bed, they would run downstairs and looked out of the glass door to check on the weather. Once they think they have accessed the weather condition as fine, they will ask to play outside. They could go without thinking of taking their breakfast, get washed and dressed. No sooner were they out, they were either running in the garden or cycling around on their bikes.

My youngest grand child is still too young to be able to ride a bicycle, so just to satisfy his whining to sit on one, his mother will place him on the back seat. And his mother ensures that bicycle is stationary, for safety reasons.

Having said that, my grand children do get themselves hurt and dirty! Oh well! It’s okay to get dirty. Kids are not happy if they are constantly reminded by grown-ups not to get dirty. It’s become a fact of life that a dirty child is truly a happy child!

Trevor's New Favorite Nanny

It is never easy to get adjusted to any new environment and get acquainted with a complete group of strangers. It would usually take me sometime to make new friends especially I am very mindful of other people’s attitude. Being judgmental, I don’t easily put immediate liking to any new person even if others say they are very kind people with pleasant character. Don’t get me wrong here though. Nobody is causing any problem to me, just that I don’t tend to trust any new person that comes to my life until I truly get to know him or her.

I believe children’s thinking would be the same, especially for those who are able to differentiate between what they like and don’t like. However, for a baby as young as 12 months and below, they would normally accept whatever the situations they may be in. For them, it would be just beyond their control to say “no” to anything they don’t like and “yes” to what they might like. Now my youngest grandson falls into this category. He has to agree with anything that his parent think is best for him whether or not he agree with his little whimsical thinking!

And one other change that happened today is he has been moved from the baby-care centre to my cousin-in-law’s home! Now the reason is that he doesn’t seem to be able to adjust himself with the day-care activities and he has been falling unwell most of the time since he started his day there. We adults were thinking that it could be that he doesn’t have enough sleep hours and those other babies and young ones who are up and about would easily disturb his peaceful afternoon nap. Just you imagine how noisy that day-care centre can be the whole day through! Poor Little Sheriff! We call my CIL’s home “Curtin Nursery” all because her home is located near to Curtin University and we also joked that “Little Sheriff” will graduate faster while in university! LOL!

This afternoon just after noon, I called my DIL and asked her about how Little Sheriff is doing at his new university. She replied saying that this morning when she handed him to my CIL, he eagerly hugged her and put a wide smile on his face. He turned round and waved happily at his mother as she left them at the front door and went to work. Well, that is already good news for me, the “grandma that always worry when it comes to the welfare of her family". I know that whatever I am doing for my family is for the best of every body. So far I can say, I am doing quite well with carrying out my responsibilities.

“God puts each morning, each new chance of life, into our hands as a gift to see what we will do with it.”

Trevor's First Baby Steps

So many interesting things happen since beginning of the year.

Nigel goes back to pre-school whereas Nicole has just started hers and Trevor started his days at Baby Care Nursery Centre since the fourth week of January.

Much of the changes that I could see are more on Trevor’s development progression. One obvious act I noticed is that Trevor enjoys imitating us adults in making all sorts of sounds and he especially enjoys counting. He would use his right pointer finger and hit his left palm mumbling the sound of “three” with “tee” and kept repeating the sound “tee” on every other numbers following three until when it comes to number ten, he will say “ten” and clapped his hands together to show that he succeeded in his baby counting! Such an awesome improvement in terms of his development from a premature-born baby to what he is now!

This couples of days, for over a week or so now, he is beginning to take his first baby steps and he couldn’t wait to even start running a marathon across the room! A very courageous little baby indeed! Whenever he dropped down on his bottom, he’ll yell out and gestures to us adults to help him up on his feet. Once up, he blows us a kiss and giggle away taking a few more steps across the room.

Blessed me Lord! I couldn’t believe that pretty soon Trevor will be having Nigel and Nicole to play with and fought over their toys too, that is! What can I say? I am just overjoyed to see my grandchildren have grown up to become little young boys and girls who are now able to have a reason or two of their own when it comes to choosing toys to have, what games to play, why they want to play outside even when the its raining, why they don’t want what they don’t like and what not!

Next task for us adults to have in our training lists will be potty training for Trevor. Until that happens, I will leave it to his parent to take care of. As for me, I’ll be there for them whenever they need me.

In spite of turmoil around the world, in our little home there is peace, joy, and laughter and that’s what I call “the simple joys of life”! So, don’t forget to enjoy your family every day of your life and as much as you can. Amen!

~ He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord. ~ Psalm 113:9

Back to school

After quite a long break and just hardly getting over the mood from the yuletide season, it will be back to school again for my dear grandkids. Nigel will be in second year pre-school whereas Nicole her first. Nigel is not keen to go back to school however his sister is excited and I am with lots of anxieties when I consider my grand-daughter to be too young for her age to be away from home.

However, I am quite confident that both kids will adjust well since they are capable of expressing themselves when they need any thing. One of improvement I noticed in both of them is memory improvement. As children get close to school age, they need to be able to remember what they have been asked and to do things in order. For instance: “Finish your drink, put the cup on the sink, then do your hair”. By using this game as practice from a very young age, they can build up confidence and the ability to remember a series of instructions and to carry them out independently. Over time, make it harder with suggestions of what can be taught. Just recently, Nicole is able to carry out her task when I told her to go to my bedroom and get my red hand phone or go to the kitchen and fetch me a green colored kitchen towel and bring it to me.

Nigel is able to do the same but with him; he got to be persuaded to carry out his tasks. He is just a lazy-bone! Now he likes colors and always refers the different hues to nature. For example, if the color is green then that is the color of leaves and if it’s yellow, then that's the sunflowers!

Nevertheless the children love to help, can get things when told to, and will be proud and happy of remembering.

I hope their day at school will be good and enjoyable and have plenty of opportunities to play with other children of their own age, and have some experience with sharing, being friendly and enjoying time together.

T'is the Season of Goodwill, Love, Peace and Hope

It is every mother's dream to have her family together during any special occasions and especially so for me, during Christmas time.

I truly enjoyed having my sons and their families gathering around the dining table and enjoying the usual, if not almost similar food prepared for Christmas eve, like roasted pork, curried chicken, dark soy-sauced stewed duck, broiled mixed vegetable, deserts such as chilled mixed-fruit salad, ice-cream jelly and Christmas pudding. The main course comes with buttered rice or "nasi briyani". Also not forgetting the red wine, cold beer, fizzy and cordial soft drinks and of course the traditional rice wine!
This year round, Christmas celebration will be different. It will be the first Christmas that my family will not have one of my DILs around (she has decided to be at her parent's home), eldest son Bills Callaghan is currently offshore and his family (my 2nd DIL Tracy and youngest grandkid Trevor) has just left for Kuching and celebrate the season with relatives living there. My other two older grandkids, Nigel and Nicole and their father Ted (my 2nd son) will be with me.
Though my dad passed away 3 years ago, we will still have four generations at the table, aged from three plus to sixty-eight. I'm sure it'll still be noisy!

Christmas is a time for goodwill, love, peace and hope to all. Let's not forget the true meaning of Christmas, which is to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the reason for the season.

Whatever way you choose to spend the season, may it be a happy time and may the New Year brings you untold joy too.

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will
Be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God.
Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.
Isiah 9:6

See How Much My Grandkids Have Grown

Picture of Trevor Kent with me during the last church sales held on 1st May 2007 at Good Shepherd Anglican Church, Lutong. Trevor turned 4 months 11 days on that day.
Picture of Nigel and Nicole enjoying wearing the hat I wore during Malaysia National Day 2006. Nigel will be 4 years old this 20th May whereas Nicole 3 years old on 27th August.

My grandkids have grown up so fast and yet I didn't feel myself getting older! I believe I find so much happiness in having enjoyable times with them, for that reason time just passed by without me realizing it.

On fine weather, we would go outdoors and enjoy the beautiful surroundings with the flowers in swaths of deep orange, creamy white, lemon yellow, salmon pink, purple blue and the green plants planted in rustic clay pots covered with moss and mud.

Nicole loves the sight of flower buds and she'll pluck them and open the buds to see what's inside. She imagined that there are ants inside the flower buds and she'll catch them and showed me her imaginary ants in her empty palms! Actually she is scared of insects especially beetles. I tend to free those beetles that are still alive caught in a spider’s web and at the sight of what I am doing; Nigel and Nicole would run back to the house! They were afraid I would show them what I got! Nigel would get mad with me and said Mr. Spider has no food to eat! It seems that Nigel has some feelings of compassion towards other living things. :)

Whatsoever, Nigel and Nicole especially enjoy watering the plants because this gives them the opportunity to get wet and play in the pool of water! There are times we saw centipedes crawling away from the over-filled flowerpots and they would try to catch them. Now that, I said to them, is very dangerous because centipedes’ stings can be poisonous. They would look blanked face at me and wondered what I meant by that. Well, I know they will one day learn what is and not safe to the touch!

As for Trevor my youngest grandson, he is still too fragile to do anything like running or watering the plant, and thus could only just sit in his push pram sucking his fingers and watched what we adults are doing. I believe he has his own baby-world to enjoy. Beauty is seen through the eyes of little children. Don’t you agree?

For me, this moment was a life-changing experience. I thought I would enjoy lots of freedom when my children married, however it is not as I thought. I know at my age it is laborious to take care of young children and lots of stress in understanding and coming to terms with their young parents’ spats and argument but I thank God that I still have the strength, the wisdom and the capabilities to handle so many responsibilities. We all mold one another’s dreams. We all hold each other’s fragile hope in our hands. We all touch other’ hearts. There is not better time than right now to be happy.

Good Morning Everyone

My grandma greeted me "Good morning, Trevor Kent" this morning and I replied her with a yawn! Do I already know that it’s going to be another boring day for me? Perhaps not boring but rather another uneventful day that is.

Every morning on most weekdays, I (and of course “wake up” call also happens to cousin Nigel and Nicole) would be disturbed from my sweet dream by my mommy (and daddy whenever he is not working out stations) and I kind of getting familiar with this kind of gesture. I am getting ready to go to Grandmother Marina's house and she is going to take care of me for the day. I know cousin Amber and Jedi are both looking forward to receive me and play with me, but alas, I wish I could run around and have more fun with them.

Yes, I received countless numbers of kisses and caresses and how I wish I could tell all these lovable people to leave me alone and have a moment of my own at times! Oh yes, I am an adorable little baby and cute and huggable too! Guess I can understand why I am excessively pampered!

Mommy said, "you will one day grow up and run the longest miles you can" but for now just rest and relax and enjoy the serenity of the surroundings and dream! So, that's what I am going to do, for now!

God Bless The Little Ones

See how fast our new “Sheriff” has grown. He is a gentleman with many characters, serious, warm, and friendly and also having unpredictable tantrums! No ma’am, he carries no gun and he isn’t going to scare away the whole neighborhood. He…he…he… Yes, if you have not heard about this “chief” he is my second grandson, Trevor Kent. Enjoy his presence and may God bless each and every one of us.

I’ll enjoy the comfort of my baby-cot and be lazy since mommy said I'm too young for any other kind of activities except… cry and yell for milk!
See my dimples!
Yes, my curiosity is always there!

Cousin Nigel is my best buddy. We keep each other company as much as possible.
~ The Lord is my Shepherd.... Psalm 23:1 ~
