Nigel Goes Shopping

Last weekend my grandchildren came to stay with me and on Saturday morning, I brought them shopping.

Nigel, my eldest grandkid love shopping because he knows grandma would buy him just about anything that he asked for. His favorite shopping centre is at Toys World owned by Bellevue Enterprise Sdn. Bhd. He love to sit at the children's reading corner and would take down many books from the shelf to browse and flip through. We came upon a beautiful fairy tale storybook about Tales and Rhymes. My grandson seems to like that book a lot and wanted to take it with him. I said to him that we have a book almost similar to the one he held. He said he wants to see 'foggy' which actually means "froggy" and 'znail' which means "snails" in there! Well, after much reassurance, he at last let go of the book and we placed it back to where it belongs.

On our trip home, he kept on reminding me about 'foggy' and 'znail'. He even made a deal with me! And the deal is, he will ride his bicycle and go shopping and buy for me "a pork", "a beef" and a "finger" of Milo (malt beverage) with his ringgit (malaysian currency), which Grandpa gave him. 'But', he said raising his pointer finger, 'mama must read to him and Nicole, his sister, a story about 'foggy' and 'znail', only then he'll do the shopping. Very smart ideas this little cheeky tot has! Oh! How I love them both!

That evening, as promised, I read them a story titled "Happy Goes Shopping" taken from the book "366 Animal Tales and Rhymes", which is a Hamlyn Publication.

At the end of the story, Nigel asked "what" Rita Rabbit is. I had to crack my brain and think of an animal so I could refer to as "Rita the Rabbit". Then I remembered that at my parent's home, my sister's family who is living there with them has a pet rabbit. So, that rabbit is "Rita the Rabbit" to the belief of my innocent grandkids! Gee! It's not at all easy to outsmart the brilliant thoughts of these young kids' inquisitiveness. Well, a simple answer like that brought a bright smile on their face and what a blessing to see the sparkle in the eyes of the fragile world of a child.
Well, for readers who are interested, I will share the story about "Happy Goes Shopping" in my next post. :) Ribbit! Ribbit! God bless always.
